The Joedaddy Burger

Today I ate lunch at the Meadowthorpe Cafe.  It is a neighborhood cafe on Leestown Rd in the Meadowthorpe Shopping Center (of all places) and next to another Lexington Landmark, Pops Resale.  I have to give total props to Cavan for recommending this place as he tells me it is one of his top destinations for burgers in Lexington.  We got on the subject of “Best Burgers” while talking about this website and we started naming off a few.  Meadowthorpe Cafe was at the top of his list and is now at the top of mine!!

The place isn’t over-hyped, and certainly isn’t one of the fancier places in Lexington but after ordering the Joedaddy Burger, and taking our seat, I looked around to see the aging equipment, booths, but noticed something very strange for typical greasy spoons….it was CLEAN!  Yeah, it was old, you could smell the ages of grease and southern cooking, but it was a clean place!  The tables were all wiped clean and real silverware was wrapped in napkins sitting in coffee cups on each table.  Again, nice diner feel.

When the server brought me the Joedaddy Burger I swear to you he had to use 2 hands!  This monster was every bit of 6 inches tall with 2 half-pound patties, 4 strips of bacon, tomatoes, onion, shredded lettuce (bonus points from me there), mayo, cheese and my new all-time favorite burger topping…. a fried egg!  And all burgers are served with fries.  No, not the crappy potato slivers some people pass off as fries, we are talking true Americana crinkle cut fries!!

The burger was cooked perfectly with a nice sear on the outside and plenty of juice when cutting through. The meat was hot and the condiments were cool with a glistening bun!  The fries were hot from the fryer, but not greasy.  Let’s pause a moment in reverent silence for this model of beefy perfection:   Another huge bonus point was having Ale8 on tap.  Sure, it’s not for everyone, but it sure fit right at home in this fantastic place and I had 2 full glasses of it!

My dining partner tried the Burke Burger.  A single patty burger with BBQ sauce and Bacon.  He said it was fantastic as well and will be on my list of ones to try in the near future!  For those with a smaller appetite, you can get the ‘Thorpe Burger which is basically a single-patty version of the Joedaddy.  Every bit as tasty,  I am sure!

Best of all, the price was just over $10!  I won’t eat for a week and only spent $10 for lunch.  Try to do THAT at Arby’s!!  Even a double Qtr Pounder will get you close in price but is no where near the quality sandwich this one is!  Definitely deserves a place in the top 5 burger list, and  currently sitting in 1st!
